During the 2007 soccer season the Pikeville College’s men’s and women’s teams saw quality improvements from their first two seasons. Entering into their third year of play the soccer program saw 55 student-athletes report to pre-season training camp. Each player had set goals and worked diligently to attain those milestones.

The women’s team saw success early on in the season. They set numerous college season records including, first goal scored in college history, first conference goal scored in college history, longest win streak, fewest goals allowed during a season, and the first win. The women also had 3 student-athletes elected to the Mid-South All-Conference team, Kate Forney (Columbus, OH), Emily Elliott (Grayson, KY), and Brittany Moore (Belfry, KY). Courtney Wiest was elected to the Academic All-Conference team as well as the Champions of Character winner for the Mid-South Conference.

The men’s team saw 9 freshmen earning starting positions. As they grew in experience they saw success. The team worked hard to become a force in the Mid-South Conference and realized tremendous improvement over the season. The other coaches of the conference recognized four Pikeville College men’s players by electing them to the All-Conference team. The players who earned the honors were Ken Baker (Hazard, KY), Channing Thacker (Pikeville, KY), Ken McAlpine (Columbia, KY), and Zach Hall (Hazard, KY). Channing Thacker was additionally recognized as the men’s Champions of Character winner.

Both programs anticipate the 2008 season being one with many successes. There have been 10 men and 11 women commit to continuing their playing careers at Pikeville College. Each of these recruits has had vast experience playing elite club soccer and high school soccer. Their abilities will continue to allow our programs to grow and mature into dynamic soccer teams. We certainly expect many wins for both the men’s and women’s teams throughout the season.
